About us
Kilbryde Hospice came into being in 2001 to help reduce the lack of palliative care beds throughout the Lanarkshire area, particularly within South Lanarkshire where there is currently no palliative care bed provision. The charity developed out of a conversation between our founders, the late Mr Tony McGuinness and Dr John Richards.

Initially run as an appeal fund, Kilbryde Hospice has benefited from tremendous support from the local residents and businesses of Lanarkshire, to whom we are very grateful. The appeal aim was to raised sufficient funds to establish a Hospice within South Lanarkshire. While this appeal continued, Kilbryde Hospice also operated a Day Hospice Drop-in Centre within the Red Deer Centre in East Kilbride, providing a range of services to patients with cancer or other life-limiting diseases, along with support for their families.

Kilbryde Hospice is now moving into the next stage of its development. We are finalising the plans to start the build of our new Hospice building to the rear of Hairmyres Hospital. The next 12 months are a very exciting time!

Full details of our new build will be announced over the coming months but we can confirm that the new Hospice will operate in a number of key stages, the first being the transfer and expansion of our existing Day Hospice Drop-in Centre currently at the Red Deer over to the new Hospice building.

This increase in service provision at the new building will significantly increase the running costs of the Hospice so watch out for a step up in our promotional and fundraising activities, as we really do rely on the generosity of the Lanarkshire residents and businesses to fund our care services.

Thank you again for your support to date and we look forward to engaging with you in the months ahead as we move into this very exciting time for Kilbryde Hospice.
