Twenty-one members of staff from the Holiday Inn, Triangle Health and Fitness Club and La Bonne Auberge were on parade to launch a year-long fundraising partnership between Kilbryde Hospice and Holiday Inn, Glasgow – East Kilbride.

Kilbryde Hospice chief’s have today paid tribute to the “extraordinary hard-work, dedication and support” of volunteers and local businesses over the past ten years, as they unveiled ambitious plans for a £3m new-build hospice in the grounds of Hairmyres Hospital. The plans for the ten-bed facility, which is due to open in 2014 and features a drop-in day hospice as well as the in-patient facility, were showcased to supporters, local volunteers and the business community at a special event in East Kilbride today. Most 18 year olds that book a trip to the world-famous Munich Beer Festival would spend the next six months in a permanent state of excitement (and perhaps trepidation). But not Ryan McWilliams. Ryan is attending the Munich Beer Festival this September with a group of friends from the University of the West of Scotland, but has set himself a fundraising challenge in the run up. For the next 262 days until the Munich Beer Festival, Ryan intends to forego his razor and visits to the hairdressers and swap his clean-cut image for that of the archetypal Scotsman – real life ‘See you Jimmy’ – all in aid of Kilbryde Hospice. Kilbryde Hospice fundraising efforts are that bit healthier thanks to a generous £4,500 donation from ISS Facilities Services. Over the past 12 months ISS staff raised the money through a variety of activities, most notably through sales and raffles of holiday hampers. The cheque for £4,500 was presented to Kilbryde Hospice representatives – Dennis Gallagher (Chairman), Gordon McHugh (Vice-Chairman) and Donna Hegarty (Business Development Manager) by ISS Facilities Healthcare General Manager, Margaret Maule. Kilbryde Hospice is set to benefit to the tune of £9,250 thanks to an Awards for All grant from the BIG Lottery Fund, Scotland. Kilbryde Hospice was one of 124 charities and community groups that was awarded Awards for All funding, it was announced last week. That is, thanks to members of the Eaglesham Round Table. On Friday 7th of October, The Eaglesham Round Table held at Comedy Night in The Eglinton Arms Hotel in aid of Kilbryde Hospice. More than 110 guests were entertained by comedians from The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow and at the same time £6,000 was raised for Kilbryde Hospice.

It seems South Lanarkshire is firmly behind Kilbryde Hospice’s inaugural Light A Light campaign. The idea of dedicating a light on the Kilbryde Hospice Tree of Remembrance for someone special seems to have struck a chord with the public.
As Dennis Gallagher, Chairman of Kilbryde Hospice commented, “For many of us, the festive season is tinged with a great deal of sadness. More than ever, we take time to remember those who are, for whatever reason, unable to be with us. I think that’s why Light A Light is proving attractive to so many people.” Read more >>>

On Monday 10 October, Kilbryde Hospice launch their inaugural Light A Light – a campaign that will light up Lanarkshire over the coming weeks, whilst at the same time raising vital funds for the construction of South Lanarkshire’s first in-patient hospice, scheduled to start early next year.
