
On Sunday 11th of September, St. Bride’s Church parishioners re-established a tradition of holding a summer fête –and this year, all proceeds from the event were donated to Kilbryde Hospice. As John Henvey, Chair of the organising committee explained, “We wanted to support a well-deserving local charity and Kilbryde Hospice was the perfect choice.” John added, “This year’s fête was enjoyed by many, many people and together we’ve raised a significant sum of money for Kilbryde Hospice.” Indeed they have, here a cheque for £2,100 is presented to Dennis Gallagher, Chairman of Kilbryde Hospice. Kilbryde Hospice has submitted a project to support vital volunteer services offered at our day hospice. Services which offer emotional and social, as well as clinical, support to patients suffering life-limiting illnesses, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and MND. Kilbryde Hospice have been successful in receiving support from the Scottish Government Community Jobs Scotland fund for three positions to help drive the charity forward over the next 26 weeks. The funded positions are for an Administration Assistant for our main hospice office, and a Shop Assistant and Delivery Driver to support our retail shops in East Kilbride. Read more >>>

Volunteers play a vital role for charities and an open evening on Thursday 15th September between 4PM and 7PM will allow Kilbryde Hospice to highlight the range of opportunities they currently have for volunteers to get involved with the charity. With a number of volunteers starting back college and university, Kilbryde Hospice shops in the town centre are currently seeking a number of volunteers to assist within the shops, as well as the potential to assist with the collection and delivery service they provide for donations. In the eyes of Kilbryde Hospice, Robert and Karen Russell are Collecting Can Heroes. Robert and Karen, of Chapelton, owners of The Food Stop van based at the Nerston Industrial Estate have been raising vital funds for Kilbryde Hospice for the past four years. Since March 2007, Robert, Karen and the generous customers of The Food Stop have raised more than £1,000 for Kilbryde Hospice. Read full story >>>

Kilbryde Hospice is asking South Lanarkshire residents to consider donating unwanted household goods when you next upgrade or clear out. With the Kilbryde Hospice clothing and media shop stealing pride of place within the East Kilbride Shopping Centre, it is often easy to overlook the furniture shop which is situated just beyond the side entrance to WH Smith and along from Imries and Oxfam. A special one-off event in memory of Tony McGuinness was announced this week. ‘The Autumn Ball’ will be a glamorous event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow and is being organised by his grandchildren. Proceeds from the evening will be split equally between Kilbryde Hospice and St Margaret’s Hospice in Clydebank where Mr McGuinness received incredible care in his last few weeks. Stuart Glen, former Director of Fundraising with animal charity OneKind, took up the role of Fundraising Manager with Kilbryde Hospice on Monday 11 July. Stuart has more than 10 years experience in fundraising, having previously worked as Membership Development Manager and Membership and Marketing Manager with Scottish Wildlife Trust. A well-respected fundraiser, he is Chair of the Institute of Fundraising (Scotland) Professional Development Committee and a member of the Institute of Fundraising (Scotland) Executive Committee. Kilbryde Hospice has appointed a Business Development Manager to oversee a step up in activity to the appeal that, since 2001, has been fundraising to establish a Hospice for the people of South Lanarkshire. Now that the new Kilbryde Hospice building is coming nearer to reality, the emphasis of the local charity must change, from encouraging donations to build the hospice to actually overseeing the build and fundraising to support the annual running costs of the Hospice.
