Kilbryde Hospice is set to benefit to the tune of £9,250 thanks to an Awards for All grant from the BIG Lottery Fund, Scotland. Kilbryde Hospice was one of 124 charities and community groups that was awarded Awards for All funding, it was announced last week. The funding will be spent on a 12 month project entitled – Kilbryde Hospice: Telling the story. Sharing the services.
As Fundraising Manager, Stuart Glen explained, “The aim of the project is to develop resources that will promote the extensive range of free services currently offered by Kilbryde Hospice day hospice and recruit volunteers to promote and support these services.”
The project has three key elements that will be supported through the Awards for All funding;
(1) Purchase of equipment
Photography, computer and projection equipment will be purchased that will allow staff and volunteers from Kilbryde Hospice to document the build of the hospice in 2012. The photographs will then be used in future Kilbryde Hospice literature and materials to document the build of the hospice and promote the services it will offer and those already offered by the day hospice.
(2) Development, production and distribution of resources
As Kilbryde Hospice continues to be built during 2012 staff and volunteers need to be able to promote the services already offered to the people of South Lanarkshire through the day hospice (as well as highlight the expanded services that will be available once the hospice is completed). This will involve staff and volunteers speaking with numerous NHS Lanarkshire staff, community groups/organisations and local media outlets.
(3) Support of volunteers
These activities will produce increase volunteer numbers, both helping in delivering services at the day hospice and promoting these services. With the increase in volunteer participation, Kilbryde Hospice intends to run an annual Volunteer Training Day in order that our volunteers can feel comfortable, confident and supported in their roles.
An Awards for All spokesman, said: “All of these grants are a great way to show the variety of projects that can be funded through Awards for All. We are always surprised at the difference a relatively small amount of money can make in communities across Scotland. “
Donna Hegarty, Business Development Manager added, “Everyone at Kilbryde Hospice is immensely grateful to BIG Lottery Fund, Scotland for their support of the hospice through the Awards for All funding. Thank you. The award is important because it means more of our funds can be spent on making South Lanarkshire’s first in-patient hospice a reality. At this point in time, supporters’ donations really are funding bricks and mortar. 2012 will be a momentous year for Kilbryde Hospice.”
Finally, Stuart asked local supporters to get involved, “If your company or a local community group, club or church would like to find out more about the range of services offered by Kilbryde Hospice and our plans for the new in-patient hospice, then please do get in touch. And, if you’re organising an event next year, then we’d love to be invited. We’ll bring our own Kilbryde Hospice marquee thanks to Awards for All.”
