Kilbryde Hospice has appointed a Business Development Manager to oversee a step up in activity to the appeal that, since 2001, has been fundraising to establish a Hospice for the people of South Lanarkshire.  Now that the new Kilbryde Hospice building is coming nearer to reality, the emphasis of the local charity must change, from encouraging donations to build the hospice to actually overseeing the build and fundraising to support the annual running costs of the Hospice.

Donna Hegarty has been appointed as Business Development Manager, having previously been Programme Manager at leading environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.  In announcing Donna’s appointment, Hospice Director, Dennis Gallagher, stated, “Donna’s appointment is a major step forward in the implementation of our strategy. Donna will be responsible for developing our organisation to support the move forward from an appeal fund to a hospice providing palliative care services. In particular, Donna will be responsible for developing our commercial activities to meet our financial commitments and improve our communication links with our benefactors, supporters and the general public.”

Commenting on her appointment Mrs Hegarty said, “I am delighted to take up the challenge of leading Kilbryde Hospice in this next stage of development.  The current services offered at the Kilbryde Hospice Day Care Centre are fantastic, however we must push forward with our goal of a specific new Hospice building for the area to bring together all the services and support we wish to offer the local community.”

Questioned about how local communities can assist and get involved with the Hospice Mrs Hegarty added, “There are many ways to support the Hospice, from volunteering at our Day Care Centre, with our volunteer fundraising team, in one of our charity shops or by organising fundraising events of your own.  We are always looking for donations of good quality clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac to sell in our shops and would also encourage you to go into the shops to see the high quality of goods we have on offer at very reasonable prices.  We are about to open a new media floor to the shop specifically for books, records, DVD’s and videos.  Please get in touch to find out how you can get involved.”

Forthcoming events to raise funds for Kilbryde Hospice include a special promotional day at the hospice charity shops in East Kilbride on the 14th May and ‘The Andy Cameron Golf Classic’ which will take place at Cathkin Braes Golf Club on Friday 27th May.  The Hospice also run a prize draw with the ‘Lucky 500 Club’, giving out £500 of cash prizes each month.  Contact the main charity office to request an application form and next months cash prize might be yours.
