17/11/2011: Local community supports hospice’s plans to light up Lanarkshire

It seems South Lanarkshire is firmly behind Kilbryde Hospice’s inaugural Light A Light campaign. The idea of dedicating a light on the Kilbryde Hospice Tree of Remembrance for someone special seems to have struck a chord with the public. As Dennis Gallagher, Chairman of Kilbryde Hospice commented, “For many of us, the festive season is tinged with a great deal of sadness. More than ever, we take time to remember those who are, for whatever reason, unable to be with us. I think that’s why Light A Light is proving attractive to so many people.”

Light A Light couldn’t be simpler. Supporters can pick up a Light A Light leaflet from The Kilbryde Hospice Shop in East Kilbride Shopping Centre, Day Hospice or numerous other outlets throughout Lanarkshire. More than 500 businesses, clubs and community groups in South Lanarkshire have been contacted and asked to support the campaign by displaying Light A Light posters and leaflets. If your company or place of work could back the campaign then do please get in touch with the hospice.

Supporters then return the completed form to Kilbryde Hospice and make a donation in memory of someone special to them. Kilbryde Hospice will then dedicate a light on the Tree of Remembrance and send you a Light A Light commemorative Christmas card inscribed with the name of your loved one and with space to add your own special message if you chose. You can also Light A Light online or over the telephone - 01698 717260.

The Tree of Remembrance, which was generously donated by Dobbies Garden Centre, Sandyholm, will be situated in the Kilbryde Hospice Shop window in the East Kilbride Shopping Centre from late November onwards. The highlight of Light A Light will undoubtedly be the Tree of Remembrance lighting ceremony on Monday 5th December at 6.30pm.

Donna Hegarty, Business Development Manager added, “Your dedication is first and foremost a private and personal tribute to someone dear to you, but I also hope a show of support for Kilbryde Hospice. When you Light A Light on Kilbryde Hospice’s Tree of Remembrance you enable us to care for the people of South Lanarkshire through some of the most difficult times of their lives. It currently costs Kilbryde Hospice more than £12 to provide 5 minutes of nursing care. We can only do this thanks to you. Your kindness makes this possible.”
